Terrible Food, Terrible Bosses

Terrible Food, Terrible Bosses

It's a tale as old as time. Young people in need of jobs flock to restaurants and retail in search of low wage income to cover expenses like rent, tuition, beer and other superfluous spending. However, lacking the skills necessary for higher paying jobs young people work most of the jobs other people don't want. Below is a story of a person who worked a tough restaurant gig with its usual issues only to come out the other side with a new perspective. Don't settle!

Me: Can you share the story of how became unemployed?

R: I took a brief job in Washington DC with I was still in school. My friend Gail was working there as a waitress at the Afghan restaurant in Washington DC. She asked if I wanted a job. I thought "wow OK, temporarily," so I took it. They hired me...terrible restaurant. The food was terrible and I wanted to leave to go to the beach in August, so I quit.

Me: What were your initial feelings? After you quit

R: Terrible job. They weren't nice

Me: How did it impact your daily life and routine?

R: I had to go back to school anyway.

Me: Did you face any unexpected challenges?

R: No I wasn't there very long

Me: Did it shape your career goals or direction at all? Did you learn any lessons?

R: I'll just take a job at that point in my life.

Me: What advice do you have somebody who just quit their job or is unemployed?

R: Don't panic. Make sure they have a little money in the bank and look for the next step

Me: How do you think society or employers can better support people who are unemployed?

R: Empathy and And listen to the unemployed person Help them out with some decision if they need it If they want.
